actually saying asian is way more vaque than saying white. Asians can range from middle eastern like the arabs to the orientals like japanese. Not very many people know that and I like to tick people off about it. Everytime someone says asian I say "oh so he wore a turban and had a big beard". so if you guys want to give a proper description say oriental for the chinese looking asians and middle eastern for the arabs and east indians.

First off, he didn't call the fish cops, because he's lazy. Second, your grade 2 logic may be good enough to flip burgers, but how do you figure that Asian is a good enough description? Third, learn to spell and go back to school. Being an uneducated hillbilly is not cool.

FYI: oriental is offensive. Using location or colour is more appropriate (i.e. Middle Eastern, East Asian, South East Asian, Brown, etc). Also, a proper description doesn't stop at ethnicity, but racists don't care. They'll feel justified by coming to a fishing forum and complaining and spreading the hate.

Its so funny watching a caucasian describe an asian to another asian. They always say to me "he looks like you". I then say" so fat with thick eyebrows and dark hair". I never find oriental to be offensive. many people don't know the difference between eastern asians and south eastern asians. TO GET BACK on topic I haven't gone fishing at all. It sucks so bad.

Oriental is a derogatory term created by Caucasians to group all the slanted eyes together into a single group. As you can see from responses such as “they all look the same”, it works perfectly for them. Anyhow, if you don’t find it personally offensive, then that’s fine, but I would never call myself Oriental and I don’t personally know anyone that would call themselves Oriental.

The funny thing about a racist is that they’re typically too dumb to know what they are, so trying to reason with one is like trying to reason with a 3 year old. It just doesn’t work.

Not to sound like a racist but Orient means "the east" so would not Oriental just mean you are from eastern decent

Yes, from a strictly literal perspective. The problem is that the word has accuracies in it, but was originally intended to label and be derogatory. As an example, you could argue that the word "chink" is short-hand for Chinese, but you'd be hard pressed to find a Chinese person that doesn't find "chink" offensive. Another example would be using the term "retarded". From a strictly literal perspective, it has accuracies (slow or impeded), but the word was created as a negative label and is extremely offensive.

Next time it happens I'll run over hop out of the boat ask them for there fishing licence number and win card number get them to stand still take a picture ask them there name SIN number bank info first child's name.

Was just saying what I seen some of you guys got to remember I'm not a huge experienced fisher man this is only my second year of getting into fishing.

Thanks for the clarification Bubbles. No judgement from my end. It's easy for people to be over critical on the board and words don't always come across as they were meant and they mean something different to each reader.

You don't need to take a picture of all of them, since they all look the same. Just take a picture of one them and save yourself some time. Or better yet, just take a picture of Jackie Chan and carry it with you. When the CO approaches, give him Jackie Chan's picture and tell them there were 10 of these guys fishing here (assuming you can count) . Just like when fisherpeople describe caucasians (which I find offensive :)), I prefer to be called what I am.... 1/2 Eastern European and 1/2 Irish....if you can't tell by looking at me you must be a racist...:) You would know my roots since I like to drink beer and complain about it......:)

With that said, if you think the only description of a person that's worth stating is their ethnicity (followed by another statement that they all look the same), then all the power to you. Wasn't able to get out on Opening Day but was able to get out on Monday morning to enjoy a couple hours on the Bow. Arrived at 7AM and fished til 9:30. Was able to hook into 8 fish in total, 4 Rainbows and 4 pikes. Smallest pike was just over 20" and the largest at 29"; all C&R. Of the 4 rainbows, I kept the two smallest one (in the picture, 15" & 19") and let the other two big ones go (23" and 23.5"). Here are pics of the trouts I kept and one of the pikes.

Going to be heading out again tommorow morning, hope everyone else had a great time on opening week.

You do not like the term Oriental or Asian But you have no problem using the term Caucasian in reference other people then Asians. The term Caucasian comes from the Caucasus region where there is over 50 ethnic groups living.so it is ok for you to group ethnic groups under one heading but not for others .Perhaps you should look up the definition of racist. Also when it comes to giving a description, ethnicity is the starting point at which forms a description of anyone. it really changes the features of the description. its not like im going to say that he is black at the end of the witness sketch....... that said I dont think they all look alike because they dont. However, certain ethnicities have certain features that are "commonly different" to other ethnicities. doesnt mean they all look alike.

If I say someone is asian or oriental it is in no way discriminatory. Literally if I was describing white guys i would say white guys not just guys. if there is a different way to summarize different ethnicities that you guys are comfortable with then please share. And no I personally dont know the difference between japanese and chinese and korean. sometimes I can guess and get it right. most times not. just like most people cant tell the difference between an american, canadian, english, scotish, irish just by looking yet we are all called white.

but in all seriousness, I can understand why one might feel upset about being called an "asian" however, consider that it is not necessarily a derogatory name. if the comments that follow are questionable then it's open season, but otherwise just relax. i have many friends of several cultures. we all make fun of eachother for it unless there is a reason for it to not be ok.

and if any one has a problem with that, they better learn the difference visually between a Canadian and an American or i will swim across the river and beat you with my fenwick.......
