First was a squirrel at 8 years old, maybe 10 feet away with an old Crosman pellgun; caught him broadside on the first shot, right behind the front leg. I remember him quite clearly taking three jumps up the tree then keeling over dead.

Since then dozens of grouse, ducks and geese, and as late who knows how many gophers, but nothing big. Looking for my first deer this coming season, though I'm more interested in good meat rather than a trophy.

My first season I was 14. Shot 2 whitetails and a cow moose with a 30-30. Also got a mule fawn with a 250 savage.

Default Blacktail Coastal Deer

Myfirst was a Costal Blacktail on the Queen Charolette Islands (dad lived there for 15 years). I was 14 and used a Browning .270 A Bolt.

It was not a clean kill and to this day I still remeber all the days events. After that first experience, I promised myself to become a better marsman before hunting again and i have - not perfect but good.
