Default wifes first ever deer

After 27 years of being together she finally decided to try hunting this. If I could find her a riffle with her specks. So off to cabellas we go. First must be a caliber that wont scare her with the recoil. No problem I figure a 243 would fill that one. So looking at them she needed a youth rifle. She is left handed. Well, that changes things. Special order only I am told. No problem so have him show us a single shot. She holds it and loves it. Problem solved right? NO. I forgot the other criteria. Must be pink camo. So home we go. Hit google and they don't seem to make these. Start researching other options. Mossy oak sells a sleeve . I ordered it back to cabellas and picked up the rifle. 5 days later the sleeve arrives. Installed it she was surprised I met all her demands. Cool. Off to site it in. she did great. Talked her into quadding in and camping for opening morning. {she was not wild about this idea. Scared a bear will eat her face} So get up at first light do about a 20 km walk and nothing. But she loved the pretty colours. Back to camp for lunch then hop on the quad to search for movement. 35 km later after seeing nothing start heading back to camp for supper. A big doe standing on the side at about 100 yards. Stop get off the quad I grab her trigger sticks and tell her to put a bullet in her gun. Her response was that I have to because she is shaking to bad. Get it set for her and start watching the deer with the binos. The deer is quartering towards us with the head covering the vitals. She is whispering turn your face. As soon as it turned her head. She shot. Perfect shot it dropped right there. My wife was so excited about it. I was so proud of her. Got the deer back to camp hung skinned and in game bag. Just finished washing my knives look up and 15 Ft from where the deer is hanging [and where the quad is with the rifles} a good size black bear is there starring at us with not a care in the world. Tell my wife don't panic but there is a bear. {remember she is sure a bear is going to eat her face} To my surprise her response was ok. She must have still been on her deer rush. I yelled and the bear took of. We stayed that night and the next day and did not see any other animals. After her time their she was planning our next trip before we even left camp. Big surprise considering She was sure she would not like it. She is hooked and can't wait to bag a buck.

Thumbs up

Sounds like you wont need to post for a new hunt partner.
Kudos on the job teaching her and making it a great time

Nice post, my wife just shot her first deer last weekend. I got more stoked watching her line up on that little buck than I have gotten over an animal in years!

Congrats on the first deer!! Finally convinced the girlfriend to come out with me this year, hopefully she'll love it and want to get tags and carry a rifle next year! Once again congrats on the deer, beautiful Doe!

Congrats to your wife; nice deer.

I like seeing these stories told just as much as the guy who holds out and waits an additional year to drop a Booner. They are both cherished equally by the hunters involved.

Thanks very much for sharing.
