Something you old timers might remember.
I was going through some of my trapping gear today and came across this trap my dad handed down to me.
I thought some of the younger trappers might find it interesting, and for the older trappers, it might bring back a few memories.
Can anyone tell me about this trap.
What was it used for? What did trappers call it, and what did the catalogues call it?
PS I know, but not too many today do.
In case anyone is interested, no it's not for sale at any price.
For me it's a link to my dad before I knew him. It's worth more then money to me.

Isn't that a #14 jump? They were already antiques when I was trapping and I'm an antique hehehe. But they were still legal to use for beavers in drowning sets in Sk when I started trapping.

It is indeed, and beaver is what they were used for.
A #14 was a #4 with teeth. And catalogues listed them as underspring traps while trappers called them jump traps because they will jump if they fire on a hard surface.
Dad used this trap some but found it didn't work very well.
By the time I started trapping in 1966 they were illegal in Alberta according to my dad. I don't know if that was true, I never saw it in print.

Sounds like fun! I'm all for it.
I know there are a lot of very interesting traps out there and lots of old traps that have a lot of memories for the older trappers.
I have a few old Hawley Nortons but I don't have any photos of them and I don't expect to be able to get any photos of them, but I'm sure someone out there has some, and others I've never heard of.
Yeah, I like the idea!

330 Almost ????
Here is one I recently acquired and haven't got a clue about so fire away.
It is almost the same as a 330 conni , but only has a single square frame , no hinged grippers , 2 - 330 sized springs and a slide bar , I haven't seen it work or even tried to set it ,,, It will never be used and is only a convo piece.

That's one I've never seen before.
I know there were a considerable number of alternate designs of body traps out there. I've seen some with scissor jaws that close more like a snare then like a conibear. And I've seen one with a single round jaw design. But never one like this.

Ha that makes 2 of us Keg ,,,, It don't look like a very effective killing trap . I wonder how long they were in production ,, and if many trappers tried them ?
