2009 Alberta Gobbler...#2!!!
Hi all, well we had success again!! I took the wife out on Saturday and Sunday. The wind was at its best both days in the south country and as such the birds were silent. We had a couple of responses on Sat. First thing on Sun. morning (5 am) we were set up and right away heard gobbles in response to crow calls. About 30 minutes later the wind came up to gale force again! After walking for miles all through the area we were in, we found an area that had tons of turkey sign. Feathers and dropping's were all over the place in a 100 yard area. We left to let the area settle and came back in the evening around 6 pm to set up. I decided to stay silent as calling was not working at all. Around 8 pm a gobbler sounded off really close - 100 yards or so. Soon after we had a hen come strolling in putting quite a bit. She was to the left of our set up and the gobbler started to come in from the right. We had the best caller in the world working for us....the real thing!! The hen milled around a bit and then left the same way she had come in. Right after that the gobbler sounded off again to a crow calling. Then we saw THEM, 2 gobblers came in and were about 40 yards away, strutting all the way! Deb waited until they were about 20 yards away and shot the one that was closer. Not the biggest bird and definitely not the prettiest as you can see from the pic as it had been in a fight with something and was missing a lot of tail feathers and the beard is about 3 inches. None the less, it was her first bird and she was happy! Now I think she knows why I like hunting them so much!!

Congrats again FFG! We have been out several times, and we only see hens, and then only 1 at a time! We heard them 2 weeks ago, but couldn't locate them. Now they seem to have gone quiet. I wish we'd be able to hear them again!
Oh well!

Hey ram crazy! Elk hunting is going to be crazy for us with 4 tags this year between the group! Also, we get to go check it out early too as I was just checking things out for another thread and it looks like I'm a for sure on Trophy Antelope too! As for the turkey, yeah I'm proud she got one and not only that; she doesn't snore like you do at moose camp!!

Thanks alot, Well we'll have to get big loper for you this year, as the last time was a bit on the rushed side with your move right at that time. Start making that cow decoy. I know there is book loper still running around at farm.

Rushed is an understatement!! Trying to figure out now how to get the cow decoy to attach to the mountain bike. I can't believe your going to mess up my annual week pheasant hunt again this year! LOL! Monday night (18th) at the farm for the opener on Oct 19??
