Default Bought a new rifle :)

Hi Everyone,

With all the questions abought rifle choice out there I thought I would give my recommendations for the Remington 700 SPS DM.

This is my first year hunting. I grew up on the farm and learned a fair amount about shooting but never hunted. My dad had an old Enfield 303 that I was going to use this year but I'm not yet cofident it could do the job beyond 200yrd. I also had some trouble with the scope mounts which hae prevented me from getting it sighted in.

So I went out and picked up the Remington 700 sps dm in a 300 win mag and I love it. I paid $600 new and it shoots sub-MOA at 100yrds after firing 18 rounds. I took it back to 300yrds and it shot a 3 inch group. If someone is looking for a "bang for your buck" rifle this one is tops in my books.
The 300 wim mag shoots flat and hits hard!

I too think that the SPS series is good good value in a rifle.

I believe that Savage was seriously eating into the price point market for Remington, so they did a good thing with that line of rifles.

As with all 700's, a simple bedding job and trigger tune will make it even better IMO... both things that can be done by almost anyone, and cheaply.

Default agreed :)

My deer-blaster is a 700 SPS DM in 7mm-08...it was great to shoot out of the box, but the trigger was pretty heavy (about 9lbs) but a $40 trigger job fixed that. With my Leupold on top, it's quite a package considering the money it cost. No complaints here

Thanks for the advice. After hunting season I will take it to a gunsmith and have the trigger adjusted. It is a bit heavy. Well here is a picture after I painter her up. I think it turned out pretty good.

Ya, Candian Tire sells a non-reflective camo paint made by Krylon. It comes in the four basic camo colours and dries in minutes.

How is that paint for wear and tear? I was thinking of doing my 700Ti's in snow or nice light colors for the mountians.

I am not sure how the paint wears. This is the first time I used it. I immagine it will wear to some degree and I will have to touch it up down the road.

Hey Win94, I shot a similar group on my 6th group out of the box with just Remington Core Lokt 180gr. The I shot with Federal Premium 180gr but it seemed to shoot better with the cheap stuff. I will need to spend some more time on the range to find what works perfectly.
