Son's First Bow Kill(s)
So with the beautiful weather today, nice and sunny, very little wind it was a perfect day to hit the pasture with my son. We were very excited to see the pups were finally up! Got him with-in 15 yards of a couple groups and he just couldn't quite make the shot, very close but not there. Then on the third group we got on I sent him a bit ahead of me. He closed to about 15 yards shot, and missed. But his second arrow found it's mark! He jumped up, pumped his fist and turned to give me a huge smile! I quickly ran up to him and gave him a high 5. The gophers came back out and he got another one.
So 2 out of one hole. It was pretty cool, he is getting to be a pretty good shot. He got 5 today.
He is shooting a Browning Fox, pulling 20lbs. Beaman Jr hunter arrows topped with a muzzy mx3 with practice blades.

Awesome, how old is he? Can that bow be adjusted for less draw weight?

Thanks guys! It was a very fun afternoon. I am looking forward to him being 12. Not in a rush for him to grow up but getting him out on his first real hunts should be a blast!!

BRL, he is 10. Yes it can. He started at 13ishlbs on it. Now pulling 18-20 last time i checked. Do you think that might be too much? He seems to be able to pull that fairly easily and I have tried to coach him and get his back muscles engaged. But the last thing I want it to be giving him a shoulder problem by pulling too much.

congrats
20lbs is not to much weight if he can sit on a chair or stool and pull it without falling off or aiming in the air to pull it. as long as he can draw it on target instead of aiming up in the sky like most adults do when they are over bowed you are fine

I was just asking because my son is 4 (almost five) and I can't wait to buy him a bow.

Thanks Trav!! I was going to send you a PM but you beat me to it. He definatly does not have to point skyward to draw, but I will try the chair trick tonight for sure!

I hear ya man! I bought my younger son a small bow from Wholesale its sort of a recurve with small wheel very easy for him to pull it was a great starter. I can wait for my guy to step up to his next bow to see what he can do he is a pretty deadly shot already!
I think Bear and Barnett make some small bow for kids your age, might be worth a look, good luck!

yup they sure do and some nice ones. Just a word of caution for anyone looking at a youth bow. Check the maufactures chart and see what the draw weight range is for your childs draw length. For my son (22" draw) some of the bows draw weights are as high as 30lbs. Way to much for him to be trying to pull right now.
