I don't see why they would close the Derby. It's a fishing Derby, not a camping derby. If the ice is safe enough to walk on,it will not be cancelled.

Anyone who has a large trailer or 5th wheel might want to park on the South Berm on Monday though to make sure they have a spot to park!

I am going to head out to Badger tomorrow but I won't be participating in the derby because I don't have a cooler big enough for the pike I plan to catch.

If you have a small sled, you could put enough water to submerge the pike in that.

I have a large enough cooler,I just don't have large enough Pike,LOL!

Ice is good, three good size ice heaves, one at the boat launch, one at the north end east of the dam and one in the north east corner, not hard to see now but calling for snow this weekend so be careful and good luck

Which forecast are you checking? i don't see anything close to that cold.

Fished it since the first one, when it was ran out of the Commercial Hotel in Lomond, '85 I think it was. Several times there's been alot of open water. It's never been called off for that reason.

Once, we camped on the ice on the east shoreline. The middle was wide open. Wind blew so hard there was whitecaps which must have carried on under the ice as you could feel the waves standing on it. The fishing at Badger has been pretty poor since about 1990 compared to it's early days of impoundment, which I think was '81. At least for me and I was raised 15 mins South.

No worries, thanks for the info. Going to be pulling the ice trailer on the ice to camp for the weekend, but 20" is a decent amount, hope theres not too much snow so we can see those cracks. Can you still drive on that north-east corner or is the crack a ways out?

Fail. Looks like a decent weekend to me!

As long as it's not like 3 or so years ago, when it was ~ -30 in the morning with the wind blowing, I'll be a happy camper. I was baiting hooks in the in truck that year, cause they were freezing to my fingers when doing it outside, lol. That year was too damn cold!

WHAT??? NO WAY?? I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE AROUND TO INFORM ME OF THAT...................

Please find the Lomond forecast on this website... --> http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/canada_e.html
Guess I could have used Vauxhall instead of Brooks, but it's all gonna be relatively the same --> http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/..._metric_e.html

And no, the forecast has not changed that drastically over night, lol. You were just wrong with your temperatures, believe me, I looked and thought you were crazy last night too...

Big difference on the weather network forecast of the two (Brooks & Lomond) for the weekend...... Sigh...
