Default Travers Fishing Report - May 9th, 2012

All I can say is great fun

Arrived from Calgary around 3 PM at the water inlet on the east side
Water is definitely low still when I came to the rock edge

Fishing didn't peak till 5 PM, started slowing down after 9 PM
One side of the rocks by the inlet had muddy water
Best spot to fish seemed to be past the net area
Caught 15 Walleyes ranging from small to over 50 cm
Sometimes I through in my pickerel rig and it was 5 seconds and I had a hit
Couldn't even sit down
Best fishing tool was the pickerel rig with 28 oz weight
Had luck with my fake walleye and jigs but the rig was the best

Took home a 55 cm Walleye and fried him up
It was absolutely delicious on the BBQ wrapped in bacon and some lemon/garlic
Yum yum

Ran into the fish and wildlife officers well I was there
Good bunch of guys

Look forward to my next trip there. Wish I had a boat
Anyone else interested in tagging along. Shoot me a message

All I was using was emerald shiners and salted smelts

After a few bump ups I made it to Lethbridge a day late . Spent the night at my buddys place just outside of Tofield . My truck decided ti wanted to cause me grief putting a damper on another fishing trip south . Oh well I made it here 300 bucks lighter in the wallet , but I do now have a new starter in my truck .

Anyway I am headed to Travers in the mornig with the Tracker , I have never Open water fished it , only ice fished it a few times . Pretty pumped to smack some walleye .

See ya guys out there, Great report for got to mention that .

On side note anyone know what was happening at Travers on my trip south watched 2 Ambulances lights and sirens , followed by RCMP a few miles behind and Ambulaces turned at the Travers turn off from Highway 23 I think it is whatever the Vulcan highway is . Hate for someone to be in rough shape 3 days into to the season .

The Dock being outside the boundary is the greatest thing ever to happen to Travers. The lake is like a never ending supply of walleyes, big and small. It the superman walleye lake of Alberta.

Congrats on your great day thanks for fishing where you did

Glad to meet you boys out there.

After a bit of moving we started to get into them a bit better then the original area we anchored up in.

Yesterday was still a way better day overall.

Oh ya we found out what was wrong with the trolling motor. The battery is completely drained. It must have a bit of draw coming off of it. The weird part was that the check button the trolling motor was reading full. After a bit of messing around and swapping batteries we had the trolling motor working again. So I now have the trolling battery on my charger so BBJ will have a full charge when he hauls the boat back up north.

Get a hold of me sometime if you boys make it down to my area and I will see if I can get out with you on the water.

It was good to meet you , you guys managed to do alright . Fishing was very slow yesterday but I will admit quality was way up from Friday . We averaged 48 cm fish with some as big as 68 and some as low as 30.

Absolutely I'm gonna try that out Tuesday that's one of them things we don't do up here not often anyway . I'm seriously giving thought to moving south . Just for the fishing . I think somewhere between clairsholm Vulcan area and brooks would serve me very well .
