Default Upper K Report

Left for Nakoda lodge on Thursday. The wife had a Friday retreat there. I "retreated" to go fishing. Nice place at Nakoda!

I watched a couple of guys fishing Chief Hector. Didn't see them hook up once so the die was cast instead to go to Upper K Lake.

Made it there around 8:30 a.m. Nice and windless. Pretty warm too. Started out fishing the point across from the boat launch. Then at the first incoming creek. For about and hour a half I did not see a thing. Did see a couple of fish surfacing though.

Started trolling down to the next in coming creek. A bit before that it comes out of deep water to a rise. Finally felt a little tick on the line. Let it go back and boom! Had a good hook set into something. Didn't feel like much then it started to dog it. Had a great fight and was very pleased to see a nice bull trout on the line. After a good tug of war I managed to land it. Hardly fit in the net at just shy of 24 inches. After some pics and releasing it I was pretty much grinning from ear to ear. Kept trolling and soon had another hit, a 14 inch cutthroat. Pretty much kept in the area and landed in another 5 in a row. One was a pig that went over 50 cms. Couldn't fit my hand around it and didn't get any pics put one when it was in the net. 8th fish jumped out the water about 8 times. Nice 16 inch rainbow. Finished off with another cutt before the weather blew in. Was off the lake by 1 p.m. pleased as can be for a first try.

Some breathtaking country down there. I will be back.

Btw, rained all Friday afternoon, all night, and into Saturday when we left. The Bow river looked not just high but dangerous. What a blow out.

Here are some pics:

Good way to start a Friday morning.

The Bully!

Huge cutty - over 50 cm

The one bow of the day

Cheers!

That water looks amazing, too bad the weather rolled in, sounds like you would have been out there all day

Some beautiful looking fish there. Nice pics.

What kind of boat do you have? Just wondering how high the water is at the boat launch. Was down below the launch a few weeks ago so most boats couldn't even think about launching.

A 12 foot aluminum. Water was 3-4 pilings up already. Sure drops off quick just past the last one. Good thing I tied the boat up to the truck or it would have sailed away....wonder if anyone has had this happen ?

Thanks I will be sure to tie up the boat if I launch there. Ya that last drop off is a doozey if your not prepared.

I did see one guy last year that had a green inflateable. He was at shore and didn't tie it up. F&W were there. He had come in with 2 other people. None of them had a license and they had 4 fish. So they were all getting written up. While he was preocupied his boat had drifted out into the lake. I already had my boat out of the water. Not sure how he got his back and I didn't really care if he did.

Just got up and heading out with my son and a old friend that's in town for a wedding. Playing mr. fishing guide today. Can't wait to get my line on the water. I'll see how it goes and post pics if it pans out.
