Default A Killer Story!

A young fellow from one of our BC Fishing forums got some incredible camera shots, and posted them on his web site. I thought I would share.

Wow! Amazing photos and story. I don't think I'd want a seal climbing onto my boat with a pod of whales in hot pursuit! Thanks for posting that link, I really enjoyed that. TC

witnessing things like that are what makes me love the outdoors so much. i cant imagine how cool that would be to see live. when i was a kid watching walt disney and wild kingdom, they always made predators out to be the bad guy. i always found myself rooting for the hunter.....

Poor seal. Killer Whales are actually my favourite whales and they need to eat ofcourse. Doesn't mean I want to be witness to it, anymore than I want coyotes to eat my cat

Very cool pictures.

Very cool pics!! I was lucky enough to witness the same thing once, only I was on shore. If anyone is famialr with Campbell River, I used to go get a coffee when i would go to the post office and sit at the spit by the tyee pool.

Same thing 3 killer whales come in and start chasing a seal. The chase turns circular with in 50ft of shore, they are going at it so hard, a small whirlpool forms from there action. I was amazed that that would happen from them doing that. It goes on for about a minute,,, they swim off the largest broaches and splashes.

They missed the seal because as soon as they were gone,, poof he pops up. Was one of the coolest things I ever saw.. I NEVER left home with out my camera again. I was the only vehicle sitting there,,amazing to see it let alone be the only person!

Wicked, once in a lifetime event and to catch it on tape is even better. Those eyes on the seal are haunting.

I bet the seal also left a yellow and brown trail for them to follow it too.

I know I would.

Minus the seal....I had a similar experience up in Port Hardy a couple years ago...a family pod of Killers came by us while fishing....Bull, Cow and 2 Calves....was really cool to watch them circle the boat and swim directly under us. I have some video somewhere of it too.

Just felt like reading up on Killers again and they're just as interesting as when I was in school. I didn't realize they were related to dolphins, so they're really smart.

They're also known to beach themselves to catch prey so that guy's lucky he got out of there when he did. Probably wouldn't have taken long before one jumped on the boat

I wonder if insurance would cover a boat wrecked by a killer whale.

I would've clubbed the dirty bustard and fed him to the whales. Seals suck.

I've had them go by me a few times, never seen them actually hunting something like that though.

Wow, awesome pics and story. Sure it's part of nature but still I'm glad the seal was saved. Thanks for posting.
