Default Do you need a PAL?

Do you need to have a PAL to go hunting with another person and use a gun they own? I'm waiting for my PAL application to be approved but would like to go hunting with a friend and borrow his gun, but am unclear on whether or not I need my PAL before I can do so.

You must be under the direct and immediate control of the PAL holder, often defined as within arms length.

This is not true. Elk is correct.

Good hunting

Just checking, but have you passed your hunter's education test and have your license?

I've had it defined to me by RCMP as within speaking distance.

I talk loud. That could be 50 yards away.

Me too, which is about how far those without a PAL are from me while hunting. I didn't see this as a problem considering what I was told.

EDIT: Actually more like 15 yards, but point still stands...

Correct me if I am wrong

Only ONE Shotgun could be used at a time with one PAL. By that, I mean you could bring as many shotguns to hunt but only use one at a time.

Can anyone confirm this point? If I am bringing out a rifle for me and one for a friend who doesn't have a PAL are they able to use the second rifle if they are in my immediate vicinity?

When hunting with rifles you can each have a gun. Though you are the 'instructor/supervisor'. You have to be in close proximity, such as mentioned above.
When hunting with shotguns each person can only be in possession of 1 shotgun. You are not allowed to carry multiple shotguns while hunting. The shotgun can only hold 3 rounds if hunting migratory birds. By only carrying one gun this prevents you from having multiple shotguns all with 3 shells in them.

I believe this is what we were told in our hunting course.

Individuals who you do not have a firearms licence, or who are not licensed for the class of firearm they wish to borrow, may borrow the firearm only if they are under the direct and immediate supervision of an appropriately licensed adult (aged 18 or older) and there are no court orders prohibiting them from possessing firearms or other weapons.
