Default Will you still go barbless?

Just as the title states, with this screw up by F&W, will you go barbed hooks until they fix the law (if they do) or will you stay barbless.

personally ill just use whatever is on the hook. if its barbed its barbed, if not ill still use it.

yep, barbless for me, won't change. I've had a few hooks in my person over the years, not pretty to remove. The last was a barbless fly deep in my cheek during a bad cast on a windy day - easy out.

Everything in my tackle box is single barbless hook, and no plans to change.

Barbless for me. it can be ****ty enough as is removing a hook from a pike when they decided to inhale it, 10x worse if it was barbed.
and really, you won't be better at fishing if you use barbs

By the sounds of some of the posts on a couple different threads. I don't think very many people followed the law anywas.People crying about getting the fine money back.Don't break the law and you won't get fined.Makes me wonder how many more laws you people are breaking.

It really depends on the species. Pike will remain barbless for me. Perch on the other hand I would like to use a barbed

Anglers age. My 4 yr old boy could use a barbled hook. He gets pretty discouraged when he never gets to see what was on the end of the line

Any barbs are pinched just before they go into my tackle, it's a habit I got into, no reason to change that now.

I will remain barbless. However, if im targeting perch or stocked trout I might use a barb. If they fix the law again I will remain 100% barbless as I did before. I have been hooked in the arm, had my dog get caught up in a P-Rig during rebaiting. I can sure say that just for the safety factor alone it is sure nice pulling a barbless hook from the flesh, im sure the fish appreciate it too.

I will stay barbless as well except maybe when it comes to the very small flies. I have lost more flies pinching those tiny little barbs. I make the habit as well nothing goes in my tackle box or vest until they are pinched and then you never have to worry about it. The other reason it is good to pinch your barbs is if you get a hook in the hand or face.

Not surprising to see. Most would not have the guts to say it though.

I believe the majority of fisherpeople in alberta dont fish barbless. Where there is a strong enforcement presence compliance is high. Where there is little to no presence there is no compliance. This kinda makes this law unenforceable or at the very least unpopular.

This combined with no/little scientific evidence to support going barbless should make this a voluntary situation, not a law.

I will say this however, I use bait (and enjoy that use) but it would have made way more sense to ban bait than pinch barbs. That to would be unpopular though.

x2, I was fishing barbless for pike and walleye long before it became law. The hooks were easyer to remove and I dont think I lost any fish because of it. Smaller fish like perch and pothole trout I left the barbs on though, these fish often dont put much of a bend into the rod and as a result its tougher to keep the line tight, I deffinatly do lose more of these fish having gone barbless. I'll deffinatly be letting my kids use barbed hooks, especily for these species.

Depends where I am. I follow the regs in Alta. by going barbless, but have some barbed hooks that I use in Sask. when going for large jacks.

Maybe I'm lucky re: getting snagged myself. Been fishing for 45 years, never got one caught in myself. My hat and my jacket have had encounters though. :-)

The only reason i pinched he barbs down was because it was the law. If I don't have to anymore, I won't.

I will stay barbless, the barbless law will click back in with out notice and don't want to have to watch for the changeback. I also believe in barbless for catch and release.

I've stabbed myself enough times with hooks that I'm going to stay barbless...I truthfully don't think that I've lost *that* many fish over the years because of a lack of barbs on my hooks.
