Got a feeling this issue will have some missing people after, trappers know there land better then anyone else and from the sounds of it the cops are being over carful to the point of being called lame.

freeman take over trappers cabin
EDMONTON -- Alberta forestry staff have been warned to avoid a wooded area south of Grande Prairie after a land-claim dispute led to armed threats by a group claiming to be freemen-on-the-land.
A message circulated through Alberta’s forestry community Wednesday warned that a group claiming to be freemen-on-the-land have occupied a cabin about 80km south of Grande Prairie and refuse to leave.
“They have reportedly occupied his trapper’s cabin,” read the e-mail, “and indicated to him that they ‘will defend it with all necessary force.’”
The group has occupied the cabin since May, according to one of the three trappers whose registered lines have been taken over.
Though he asked his name not be used, the trapper said the situation escalated when the freemen began brandishing weapons to get their point across.
RCMP in the area will not comment on the situation but did acknowledge that they are aware of it.
Paul Rolfe works for Bonnett’s Energy, an oil and gas company that has worked in the area, and said he quickly advised all of his staff to avoid the area after he received the e-mail.
“I sent (the e-mail) to all of our managers and office managers to be leery of where we’re sending our crews,” said Rolfe, adding none of his company’s workers are presently working in the area.
He described the area, where he said he has worked for years, as being near an operating gas plant and suspects there may be more interests involved than just trapping.
“It’s a forest access road; it’s also an access road to a million wells that are down there,” Rolfe said. “There’s a production facility down there so that’s likely the cause of all this.”
The e-mail says the area in question is in the vicinity of Misery Mountain and Karr Creek and says Alberta Forestry and Fish and Wildlife are aware of the threat.

I know. The RCMP should go kick in the door and take the firearms for safe keeping. Or is it only law abiding firearms owners that need to have their firearms taken away?
Either way, I find it very shocking that there are people in this country that feel they are entitled to something they didn't do anything for. I have no idea where they would get an idea like that.

The increased media attention on freemen is spreading the idea, and this extremist mentality is growing.

Morons
So, these guys claim to want respect for their private rights. But, in doing so, they completely disrespect and ignore the private property rights of people who have acquired them through their own resources? Maybe there is a picture of one of these idiots next to the definition of "hypocrisy" in the dictionary. Actually, to me, it sounds like a very convenient rationale to excuse the attempted expropriation of private property by those too indigent and lazy to establish such rights by their own effort (?). Luckily, Justice Rooke of our Courts has put the proverbial boot to this nonsense in his recent comprehensive and well researched decisions on the topic. They will no longer be able to make a mockery of the civil justice processes with their nonsense.
I, by the way, am a bit of a "libertarian conservative". These guys are no such. They are just, frankly, morons, who have fallen for the ridiculous and irrational presentations of scam artists. The whole movement is nonsense - space cadet level. It is so ridiculous that it is hard to imagine any rational person buying it. Oh well, to quote Carlin, " If you think the average person is stupid, realize that half of them are stupider than that".

No doubt a bad choice. I wouldn't want to be him. A strange disappearance may be in his immediate future.

They will be gone
These morons will be gone as soon as they see a snowflake. There is no way they will be able to struggle through any actual adversity - it is not the entitlement way.

This sounds like a big inconvenience to the trapper who is likely wanting to prepare for the up and coming trapping season .
If he is a master at his craft , they won't be there long .....

Rock Star.
No no no.
Into the wild.
Maybe not, either way all of this is entertaining.

That was my first thought. Back in the late 60's there were all sorts of 'freemen' around. We called them hippies too.
Alberta is just lucky the government shut down squatters rights in the 60's too. Otherwise, I couldn't even imagine how many people would be all over on the crown land now. And they would be claiming it was theirs.
I think in the 70's in BC the government burned down many squatters cabins and changed laws too.
The freemen idiots will end up having the oil industry start spending millions to monitor the back country wells, batteries and plants for threat. Then the oil industries will close all their lease roads, which are leased and maintained by companies for long terms.
And if nothing is done , the freemen clan will be coming in droves. I think there were 800,000 more freemen created in the USA as of yesterday.

Give em 5 minutes to clear out then doze the place.

Does anyone here know the location, line numbers? It looks like about 25 miles south of Hwy.43 on the trunk road.

Extremist mentality requires an extreme solution. I agree with NCC and bring in the army.

Were the weapons firearms? And, if so, why aren't the Mounties attending to the problem?

Let the Police and or the Army in there, next thing you know People will be crying that they violated their gun privileges and basic human rights. Then thy will demand every Officer and Soldier be tried and convicted of some crime.
Who wins, the Freeman's group.
Best way to deal with this is to compensate the trapper this year, let them starve it out over the winter. Once they have to work to stay a alive they will move on,
