Default Little Bow reservoir drained

If you were thinking of getting in a last open water trip on little bow res., don't bother. I went out on tuesday thinking I would fish her one more time. I found the gate to the rec area and boat launch locked and when I drove up on the dam I could see why. They have drained at least 15 feet of water, nothing but mud flats to the little bit of water left in the middle. I'm thinking this can't be good for the fish.

Does anyone know if they do this every year or is it them preparing to do some more work around the reservoir.

On the plus side I ended up going to travers and caught a couple keepers on the east end, probably the last out of there for a while.

Dunno why they dropped the water level was there a few weeks ago and gates were still open but impossible to launch a boat. Im curious to know why they did this as well. It wasdown about 12 feet when i was there.

That can't be good and has got to be hard on the fish population

The local irrigation districts lower most all res. in the fall.

Mainly to accommodate the spring run off and rains.

There will be plenty of deeper areas for the fish, they have been doing this for years and years so I for one do not get alarmed by it.

Think of the lake if they did not lower it in the fall. Same goes for upper K Spray, Minnewonka pretty much all lakes and res.

the little bow res is lower to the point you can see the entire actual dam, word is that it is being drained because of work on the dam or a new dam or something.i am guessing something simular to the traver's dam recently.

Thanks for the link Hooker,

I suspected that this was why it had been "drawn down"

ya that made me think about the same question of if the gate going to the lake is pad locked closed and water dropped to its current condition, if its still open to angling in both open water or hard water.
