Default Minn Kota Terrova 80 - Grinding Noise and then death

Had my brand new Terrova 80 out on Newell Lake yesterday. Trolling around for about 30 minutes, and then out of nowhere a loud grinding noise and sudden death of the motor.

Both the remote and the foot control respond as if the motor is running - but the blade will not turn. Dead as a doornail.

Will be returning but wondering if anyone has experienced this...Cracked magnet or brush issue?

Disappointing for sure.

On a more important note, did you catch anything?

not even a cold!

Spoke to a couple other anglers on the water, similar experience.

Marked a few fish pouting on the bottom - water was 45F - worked the entire lake - as best I could with the big motor once my troller crapped out. a lot of empty water columns.....

First time in a boat out there. Interesting lake, pretty shallow in places that I wanted to venture into....less than 2 feet

Loud grinding noise could be it grounding in shallow water/protruding rock and blown fuse.

Is there a fuse internally I installed a circuit breaker on mine but I think its a 60 amp. Curious if there is anything internal.

This sucks to hear I just bought one the other day and know the price, that hurts hope it all works out row you.

Thanks for the insight - I will have a deeper look tomorrow and report back.

Full power to the unit (that I can tell) - remote thinks the unit is running....maybe it is a shear pin, but it happened in 8 feet of water...but you never know....

Took it back to BassPro today - everything looks brand new except she won't run...full power everywhere & no shear pin issue...strange. Never had a single issue with any MinnKota in 20 years. Hope this is just bad luck.

I picked up the 24v I-Pilot and used it for the first time last weekend.
The thing is AWESOME.

I hope it all works out for you.

There is also an internal fuse in the head.
