spend as much as you afford to have stolen.

I've had good success with my Moultrie trail cams (I forget the M#)

Side note: I have placed my trail cams In areas that I know other people pass though. I always put a note under it in a ziplock bag that says:
"if your going to take this cam, you better find the other cam that's watching you right now".

I've never lost a cam, but I've had lots of people reading the note......

Moultrie. And if you go to their website and buy online, you can save quite a bit.
Great pics night and day.

Stay away from 2 packs of stealth cams . Both of the ones I got did not take pics worth dirt.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. Lots of variables to think about, trigger speed, flash or IR, operating temps etc...

This site http://www.trailcampro.com/trailcamerareviews.aspx does a decent job reviewing cameras and may help you determine the camera model that will best fit your needs.

I run 5 Bushnell trail cameras and they do a fine job. My bro has a couple Browning cameras and they seem to be quite good. I run the Instagram account 'albertatrailcams' if you want to check out the Bushnell pics. Good luck.

Default Bushnell Trail Cams

I use the Bushnell Trail cams. They take a decent picture for the money. At Cabelas right now they are $149 and they have a $30 mail in rebate on top of that I believe. Good price.

For a mid range camera nothing beats Cuddeback. I have a bushnell, moultrie, Stealth cam and 4 Cuddebacks. I have put them side by side and the cuddeback takes the most pictures without blank images. If you have the money buy a Reconix.

I own about 20 Cams. Have owned about 45. I have the first Reconyx I ever bought. It is likely 10 years old. Still works flawlessly. I've owned Cuddeback, never worked right. StealthCam no good. SpyPoint, not a fan. Bought four Bushnells, one is working after a year.
The only cams that last and give good results is Reconyx. Spendy short term, a bargain long term.

Buy quality, cry once.
Buy cheap, cry many times.

I run Bushnell, Spypoint, Simmons and Browning.

For me, the Spypoints have been good, the Bushnells have awesome HD video and good picts, but for me, the cheap Simmons 7mp Whitetail has been great. $100, takes 4 batteries (get avg 3000 picts per set), takes great day picts and Ok night picts (some motion blur at night) and is tough. Bear broke the lens, punched a few holes in the case and left it on the ground face up. Checked it a month later and it took 1100 picts of bellys of elk and moose, the trees and sky and a few other bears. It also rained and snowed on it and it is back out in the bush today with some tape holding the lens in place. Great camera for the $$$, I believe Cabelas has them for $79.

Cheers

x2 I run the same cameras except browning, the simmons work very good for being a cheap camera, the spypoints are my favorite so far, just recently bought a bushnell and haven't tried it yet but I've heard good things about them.

I own and have tested the following:
Reconyx (HC-500)- Obviously amazing all around but very pricey
Bushnell Trophy - Amazing pics, quick trigger speeds, but once in a while will take thousands of photos of nothing. I've had this happen on 3 different cameras and 90% of the time when the temp hits -40 but other than that a great camera. It did help a little when I set the sensitivity to low.
But still probably best bang for buck of the ones i've tested.
Browning (spec ops, range ops, reacon force) - not bad for price but picture quality is lacking.
Moultrie (M-880 and M-990i) - overall not bad, but not crisp pictures like the bushnell or reconyx.
Moultrie (D55-IR) - obsolete, very slow, takes C batteries and picture is mediocre.
U-way (150) - Good picture quality but won't work with lithium batteries.

Sounds like I need to try Cuddeback and Spypoint next.

We run bushnell trophy cams. They take pretty decent pics and the battery life is amazing, it will last all year on 1 set. Fast trigger speed and works well in cold weather. I know guys speak pretty highly of moultries, but I bought a couple and they didn't work well at all.

I have only had a problem with 2 bushnells and that was they were taking multiple pics of nothing. Those were the older model ones and that hasnt happened to me for a while.

Moultrie has some good internet specials if you buy online.

I believe there is a setting where you can choose the lithium batteries? Would have to check to be sure when I got home.

Thanks SBE2. I thought I looked but I'll double check when I get home also.

Here are some photos from my trail cameras over the last few years. Hopfeully it will help give people an idea of the picture, range and day/night quality of some of the different cameras.

I just picked up my Moultrie that I put out last fall. I changed the Card Oct 15 and the batteries were new Sept 10. I thought with the cold winter that the batteries would have died in January. It took its last picture May 28. It ended up with 2885 pictures on it.

I love the moultries for the price, clarity and battery life. Are there better cameras out there? For sure, but not for the price i don't believe.

No Lithium option but I'm giving the camera another chance. I'll check it next week.
