We were pleasantly surprised with yields as well. Peas were poor, wheat and barley average and canola was above average.

Just started thrashing canola today, late crop as we has no germination for 3-4 weeks after seeding. The greens are finally gone now, but the straw still isn't cured, the combines are crawling. Looks like an average yield 40 bushels an acre.

Is anybody else still putting canola on summer fallow? We had canola on stubble as well.

Not a farmer, but glad to hear something positive from your sector. Hope all goes well in future seasons.

Yes and we haven't noticed any difference in yield, just emergence.

Swathed canola was 55 bushels, straight cutting (different variety) is 65 plus but very tough and slow. Wheat was poor (low 60's), fababeans are over 50, didn't bother with barley as I can't seem to make money with it in a good year. About 5 days left if I can get 8 hours cutting a day instead of shutting down as soon as it toughens up.

Ya they way things looked middle of June this crop is really an anomaly , wheat was below average around here. Canola seems to be averaging 40-45 with everyone I have worked for so far this fall. Have heard of over 50 in the odd place. But what looked like a right off in June turned into a good crop, we are so so lucky there was no early frost.
I have a customer that also left some to straight cut , it's a mess moisture is thru the roof and to ripe to swath . Not sure what he is going to do. This last week has been hell on combines , everyone is pushing now with the short days. Of done more fixing from Saturday till well tomarrow then the rest of the harvest . Some big wrecks too . I better get to bed as tomarrow will be another long one.

I think canola was a pleasant surprise for many this year. Friend had probably a couple thousand acres of it, said it all went between 50-60. This area here seem, which isn't the greatest of farm land, sounds like 35- 40 is about average.
Pretty good considering how things were shaping up earlier on
