Default My late season Chocolate Ram

This was my 7th sheep hunting trip (went on 1 other but tagged out the year before) and it was great. My long time friend Jim and I headed into the mountains last Sunday and by Tuesday early afternoon I was fortunate enough to harvest a beautiful chocolate colored ram.
The trip was pretty typical in that it involved daily hikes from our horse camp up onto the surrounding peaks and ridges searching for sheep. Tuesday morning found us making our biggest climb (2000 ft elevation gain) and about 8 km round trip. After topping out we slowly crept over a rocky knob only to find a small group of rams feeding about 350 yds below us. After a half hour of glassing it was clear there was one really good ram and he was somewhat distinctive in coloring. As often happens the wind started to swirl and the rams became agitated. They circled once and then broke off on a short run during which the target ram singled himself out for a clear shot.
It's hard to describe how much a person can process in a second or two but my mind was able to identify the ram and take one last quick look at his rack (all through the scope) and as he slowed to almost a stopped I squeezed the trigger and hit my mark. He was down within 10 seconds and no second shot was required.
We had the ram back in camp by 5:30 pm and were able to rest and feed the horses before dark..............it just doesn't get any better than that!!!!
I want to thank Jim for his companionship and for being the best hunting partner anyone could want. We worked our butts off and were rewarded with a great ram.......not bad for 54 and 53 year olds hey??...........maybe sheep hunt till I'm 60 LOL

Getting it plugged Monday and then off to Marco at Sugar Creek Taxidermy!!

Lots of pictures to view. Hope you enjoy them and Happy Hunting. Remember it should be about the "experience" and the harvest is just a bonus.

Absolutely beautiful ram!! It's only fitting to me a ram like that gets harvested late season, his cape will make for a great mount. Thanks for another great read and pics to boot alpineguy.
