We stay at Big Island Cove Resort, decent cabins at a reasonable rate. Nice beach area for the family. Family has been going there for 14 years now. We enjoy it.

How's the fishing at Lac Des Isles. We are thinking of going to Waterhen Lake but Lac Des Isles looks good. Which is better of the two?

Lots of pike works for us. I am going with a bunch of guys that this is their only fishing trip of the year. We aren't targeting one kind of fish, just want numbers and a few that we can keep to cook up while we are there.

Default Pierce Lake Lodge

Last week we were up a Pierce Lake and had a spot resurved for the week to camp at Pierce Lake Lodge. Only stayed for 2 days then went to the provincial campground down the road. Ive never been camping where the only shower and toilet washroom was locked at 9pm. After that go find a outhouse. Good place to break in those new hikeing boots though as there was a nice climb to our spot. This place is for sale to for only 1.8Million.

New to this board.

My inlaws have a cabin at this lake and it is common knowledge that the current owner/operator of Northern Cross Resort is HORRIBLE.

He charges for Firewood?

Shouldn't some firewood be included in the price of the campground fee.

I realize that some people burn too much but everyone should be given enough wood for a 2 hour campfire in the evening.

We recently fished the lake and caught some HUGE Pike. Very FEW Walleye but only tried a couple of times for them. Caught 1.

The lake probably has a decent population of Walleye due to lots of stocking but I think there is TOO much baitfish population and therefore the Walleye do not feed on this lake like others in the area.

A few years back I was anchored on the North side of Big Island. Caught nice 3 lb Walleye jigging. Had my camera beneath the boat and could see 5-7 Large Walleye sitting 3-4 feet off bottom. Tried slip bobbers, jigs, etc tipped with Minnows, Leeches and Night Crawlers and ONLY caught 1 more Walleye. I could actually see in camera that my hook was right in front of their noses and they took no interest.

This may have been after a cold front and they may have been in a negative feeding pattern.

Im not sure about cabins but if they are like the rest of the place I would stay away.A fellow angler moved in a camp spot that had garbage on it and when he left the owner tryed to charge him $90 to clean up the site plus an eviction from the Prov park. The garbage had booze bottles, and used womans pads in itMy friend dosnt drink and I dont think he has need of those womans things either.Owner was an ignerant dink and if he spent some time tidying up the campground and cleaning the washrooms instead of watching porn on his computor maybe the place wouldnt be so bad.

This is Mrs Bob, and I will have you know that my husband does not watch porn. When he is alone in that dark room in the basement with the door locked till the wee hours of the morning, he is only reading. And the lotion he keeps stocked is because the pages on the books get dry and give him paper cuts. So There

Hey Stuart
Pierce Lake lodge is ok..At least they keep the cabins clean
Availability may be an issue tho
And yes I do sympathize with the campers..they really stuff em in there
Beautiful lake tho and fishing is respectable.Lake trout are on and you DO have the chance to land a nice one....10-15lbrs are not out of the ordinary when they are hitting.Depths can vary.Calm early mornings on that lake are outstanding.

You think that is bad...try Duck Lake in Montana.
  1. The road in will often split your tires
  2. The cabins are slowing being burned for fire wood by the local indians
  3. Local indians will swing by...sometimes drunk demanding money under the pretext that they are campground officials
  4. There has been no campground manager for over 5 years
  5. Toilets were removed and then replaced with a few that are overflowing and uncleaned inside
  6. Mosquitoes drive normal men insane in the unkept underbrush
  7. large ruts and uneven roads and camping spots make for difficult set up
  8. Garbage is not removed so it piles up everywhere
  9. Drunking parties keep you up at night
  10. fierce winds drive you off the lake and can rattle even the strongest
trailers and even flip them over when driving home
  11. Fishing can be very hit or miss
  12. Other fishermen will tend to crowd you if you show any success even though the lake is huge
  13. Tons of suckers cause for bad days
  14. Pelicans steal trout off your line
  15. Lack of public access causes problems
  16. Indians sometimes change the rules and can try and charge you to use their boat launch
  17. Boat Launch dock has fallen apart and is unsafe
  18. Campsites have no power.

Probably missed a bunch

WOW, glad we havnt planned to go there, these people have a GOLD mine if they would just do a little work and upkeep.Us fishermen bring in a lotta cash for the comunitie but some people just dont get it.I asked Northern Cross about fuel for our boats, he grumbaled thet he only had a 500 gal tank , so he didnt feel he could service us At $1.14 a litre and the average tourny boat burning $100 ish a day , he would of made a killing off gas.If I was him I would have told the tourny guys that I would fill every day and give the tourny guys a 5 cent discount.Does he realise how much fuel and money he could of made ? Not a very good buisness man!, we all went to town to fill.Heck with himOwell we all will know better next year, haha

Default Northern Cross

Just returned from a weekend at Lac des Isles. Have stayed at Northern Cross for years, and found the campsites clean and the owners very friendly and welcoming. Washrooms were clean and well stocked.

UhOh?!? This might be the owner right here trying to pass himself off as another satified customer??? You said he likes the computer, and maybe he doesn't only just surf for porn?!?
