Default What to do when a CO is far away?

B.C. man fired from job after saving moose calf on the highway

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...oose-1.6907646

Many of us would have done the same thing and it would hard to shut up after such an amazing rescue.

In my opinion it is stupid to bring a wild animal as big as that into the cab of a moving vehicle. I can understand the company firing him for ignoring directives. They would have been responsible if the calf caused an accident.

The guy did the right thing...the calf could have caused an accident ...and the BB the same if nature was left to its course..the guy has a big ❤️ and did the right thing given the circumstance...Dale Reimer of AFD Petroleum is another class clown of management and society at large...If anything a reprimand letter to file for a year for this guy... if anything!!! ... policy and procedure is a guideline and not an absolute in many circumstances but not all ... Dale Reimer and AFD Petroleum should put on their big boy pants and use their big brain to make a reasonable and proper decision....what a stooped president and company decision IMHO

Isn't vanity, as an example of pride, a one of deadly sins? If he kept his mouth shut he would've been fine. But noooo.... Had to share...

And policies and procedures aren't guidelines... They aren't suggestions, they are rules. Drug and alcohol policy, ppe policy... Procedures for just about anything outline how things are done in certain order.
Again, if he kept quite, and company still find out about it there was a chance for light to medium spanking. But since it was in the open not enforcing it would create precedent... Which companies would rather not have...

Agreed! Just because the moose climbed in doesn’t mean it wouldn’t go whoops and become aggressive once confined. The problem is people always think they know better. Nature is cruel and while some things are hard to watch or accept, that’s nature at work! The guy plainly is justifying his actions by tossing oh well it’s a female so I saved lots of moose not just one. Whatever helps you sleep at night dude, your foolish and got extremely lucky!!

They were probably looking for a reason to fire him already, hopefully he finds a better job as there are lots out there.

Yup.

Good intentions that could have ended up way worse in confined tight quarters.

But hey it made news

Right, Wrong or otherwise it was an absolutely stupid idea to post your actions on social media with your company truck and logo visible. His termination was a self inflicted wound.

All he had to do, if he felt so obligated to intervene in mother nature and save this calf, and instead of seeking attention and self gratification was to put his damn camera away and nobody would have been forced to fire him!!!!

Self inflicted wound. He gets zero sympathy from me.

My thoughts exactly.

Why post anything about it? Just quietly be the hero and go about your day, fully employed still.

My despise for social media grows by the day.

I think this was foolish on his part. Foolish to pick up a moose and mess with natural processes, foolish to put a large wild animal in the cab of a 50,000lb+ vehicle endangering other motorists, foolish to post it on social media.

I feel sorry for him to the extent that he lost his job, but he allowed his emotions and vanity to override better judgement.

Well, apparently the truck he was in has a two way dash cam, and the company has released the footage. From what I read in BC hunting forum.

Seems he was only telling his side of the story! Go figure, eh!

I'm kind of neutral on this one. Not the brightest thing to do for sure. No social media sympathy for the bear that had to go find another snack I guess.

I can't help but think of what a moose did to the inside of that truck over the course of 5 hours.

Didn't find the completed footage yet, but there are snippets in this video

I am on the side of the guy that saved another moose from bear supper. Our local town has AFD petroleum station. I for one will buy "no more diesel or gas" from a company with such poor quality semi competent management.
PS A letter to his file would have more than covered this situation.

I find it highly improbable that a bear would let a calf wonder away like that, and that there is no video of the bear as well.
On top of that, he was using a company vehicle in an unauthorized manner, let alone posting it on the internet .

Pretty common to put regular cow calves in trucks. When younger ive given calves a ride across my lap on a Colt.
Its to bad everything we say or post pictures of could be used against us.
I know of a rancher in north east BC who raised a calf moose . they castrated it like a normal calf and it was a yard pet and doing well as a yearling. I thought it was kind of cool but I'm sure tons of laws and people against it

He was dismissed due to a SERIES of workplace incidents culminating with this one, sounds like this guy may not have been a model employee and this was the last straw, not the sharpest knife in the drawer for sharing it on social media but then he did get his 10 minutes of fame.
