Default Got to love Google Earth

This is awesome for scouting without leaving home, you can find new holes without burning gas. Now does this look like a good hole or what

Yer such a tease Wayne, blocking out the coordinates

Google earth is a fantastic tool, I have used it many times. From what I understand it really helped The Clash with his ultimate hunting trip this year. And it proved to help him out quite a bit!

Default Google Earth

Yes, Google Earth is an excellent tool to get some ideas of the river dpeths before you go out and read the water. I frequently used it for fishing NSR. Thankfully, the most recent airphotos of NSR in Edmonton were taken September of last year which is when the water is the clearest in a year. You will see the clear contrast of of shallow (mostly light greeen or greyish green) and deep (dark green) areas in the river.

However, on Google Earth when you read the river near the mouth of creek or the outfall of watertreatment plant, the darker color doesn't necessarily mean higher depth. I guess it comes from the differences of the suspensions in the creek water and main river water.

So, Wayne, when I look at your map, it tells me two things; 1. Overall darker color on right hand side of the map may be the result of the water from the creek. 2. I still see some much darker contours on right side that could be deeper holes.

Anyway, tell us your actual observation. We never know until we actually see it.

Default And the verdict is....

Went down and checked out this hole this afternoon, about 4 oclock. Id have to say yes it is deeper below the creek mouth, but some of the dark colour I think is weeds when they took the picture. It was deep tho, and I managed 3 fish, a 5 pound pike that hit then missed, in about 4 inches of water, now that was a thrill. I did manage to coax it to hit again and landed it. 5 minutes later a 2 pound walleye, on the same red and white spoon, and then one I believe to be a double digit walleye that got off, it definitely didnt fight like a pike, I thought it was bottom til I pulled really hard to break loose and it swam off then managed to toss the hook. Had a storm wildeye on so I doubt it was a sturgeon. Then I tried a gold hammered spoon with a florescent green insert, and hooked a fat 3 pound walleye. Both eyes were long enough to keep, but I wont eat fish out of the river. I will definitely try this place again soon, 8 miles from my front door. An unbelievable sunset with a coyote serenade to finish off the day.

The rest of my pics here.

Its great, even picked out the trail to get to the hole. You can even see pelicans there in the river when you look at it on google earth, another clue to a fishy spot!
