Default 7mm bullets sectioned

I got tinkering around today and decided to section a handful of 7mm bullets I have on hand.

Un sectioned L to R;
Hornady 120gr. SP, Nosler 120gr. Bal Tip, Speer 130gr. BTSP, Hornady 139gr. BTSP(interlock), Nosler 140gr. Bal Tip, Speer 145gr. BTSP, Sierra 150gr. Gameking, Nosler 150gr. Bal Tip.

Here are two pics of the sectioned bullets.

Things I noticed;
The 120gr. Bal Tip is very thick jacketed right to the tip, as is often reported I tend agree it's nothing but the 150gr. Bal Tip shortened, the 140gr. Bal Tip is no where as thick at the tip as the 120gr.

The Speer BT's show a distinct thicker section about 50% down their shank.

The Hornady Interlock, shows a uniformly thick jacket, with a recessed part at it's cannelure, and the interlock is visable in the last 30% of the shank.

The Sierra Gameking had a different composition core from all the others, this must be the 3% antimony core they adverise, it seems stiffer, and les maliable than the other cores used in this sectioning.

The Hornady 120gr. SP is a single thickness jacket from base to tip.

Neat findings Dick. Wow you and me must be on the same wave length today. Last night I grabbed a few of my .308 cal bullets to do the same thing to today. I was going to do the following: 180gr Nosler E-Tip, 180gr Failsafe, 180gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, 180gr Speer Grand Slam, and 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.
By the way how did you get yours halved? Our machinist doesn’t think he can machine it in half. He mentioned to me to clamp it, grind it down then do the finishing touches with a file.

Great idead Rocky, I think if we got enough of the AO gang doing this we'd have almost every bullet out there sectioned. It might provide a real good refrence sticky to go up top in this section.

For those wondering I'll only provide the trick to how I sectioned these bullets thru PM's, I really dont want to publish it because it is a bit different, and of course we don't want the kids trying it without the propper PPE, which included an 8210 filter mask BTW.
