Interesting thread here YAFORDDIESEL, and interesting handle ya got there too!

Actually, their real official designation was; PCMR ('Pacific Coast Militia Rangers') They were a B.C. coast militia group assigned the task of helping to guard against Japanese invasion during WWII.

Here's a few details; http://www.navalandmilitarymuseum.or...ence/pcmr.html

And a couple photos;

During the first part of the war they were issued Winchester 94's (lever action .30-30's). From what I understand, most of the Winchesters were eventually replaced with British .303 Lee Enfields. But most of their famous pictures were taken with their Winchesters.

If you have one of their 94's ... by God, hang on to it!!!

Another interesting point of fact is that the Canadian Rangers of today's Canadian Forces trace their lineage to the PCMR. There are currently about 4,200 Canadian Rangers in the CF, organized into five Canadian Ranger Patrol Groups across the country. Approximately 1,600 Canadian Rangers serve in 1 CRPG, which is headquartered in Yellowknife. The other 2,600 serve in various patrol locations with the other four CRPGs south of the 60th parallel in the northern regions of our provinces bordering the Territories. So now you know...

...and they're still equipped with the Lee-Enfield .303 rifle to boot!

Although from the noises I've been hearing, they are going to be re-equipped. Whether that includes their rifles is hard to say.

As TF said, hang on to that 30-30! Great piece of Canadian history there.

I think when the war wound down, they were allowed to keep, or buy their rifles. Might be some interesting personal history to go with it.

That's ^ kind of sad, when you think about it ... modern-day Canadian Rangers still equipped with old WWII British .303 Lee Enfields.

Surely they deserve better than that ^ !

As I said TF, the minister of defence did say they were going to be re-equipped. Hopefully it includes their firepower. Has to do with all the bs about the arctic. We all know what will happen to those venerable old rifles if they are replaced though...
