Default Tree's First........ARCHERY Coyote!

Hey guys. Spent the day in the Calgary bow zone today and managed to get my second 'first' of the season! Woooo Hooo!

With my first elk in the freezer already, it was the most 'pressure-free' day of hunting for me ever. I actually missed taking a shot on a 150BC 4X4 mulie in the morning 'cause I was screwing around with the GPS unit to pass a bit of time. Then I bumped into a mulie doe in the afternoon at about 25-30 yards and actually drew on her three times, but the strong crosswind and the fact that she was facing me stopped any chance of taking a shot.

At about 4PM, I set up on a fenceline for the evening's hunt. By about 6 PM, I was freakin' freezing, and hadn't seen anything, so I decided to move. Personally, I don't like taking sundown shots, especially with archery gear. Anyway, as I was sneaking through a patch of brush, this little girl jumped up. She kindda looked at me for a second and dashed into the bushes. I 'clicked' with my tongue, and hell if she didn't stop at 30 yards. I took a quick 'wing and a prayer' shot, heard a thunk and a coyote running away. I was pretty sure I hit her, but the arrow really had to thread the needle to get there. As I approached where she was standing, I saw my arrow sticking out of the ground about another 20 yards away. Now I really started to think I missed. However, I noticed blood on my fletching, and there she lay 10 yards away. Although my shot was farther back than I would have liked, it killed he in less than 5-10 seconds, so I'm alright with that. Anyway, enjoy the pics, and happy hunting!

Tree.. You have to get her mounted with a pheasant hanging out of her mouth. In fact take the pheasant with your bow. ( I assume that is legal?)
If you want, I will take you out with Brook and we can try it.. Could be cool
They have a simalar mount at the Gun club. It is just a head/shoulder mount. VERY COOL.
I plan on getting the same mount if I ever wack a a HUGE yote.

I can't sit in a tree stand 5 minutes with out a coyote running around under me, if I was bow hunter I'd have killed a lot more of them than I have (I get bored, easily .)
Congrats on a great shot.

Thanks everyone! Sorry for taking so long to get back here, but I worked all day and just got the kids to bed from a night of trick-or-treating.

MAN, I am still pumped! Hell, I took her to work with me today. Although this is only the start of my second real archery season, I know how tricky they can be with a rifle, let alone the bow. I'd love to go on and on about my unsurpassed prowess as an archer, a William Tell per say ......but in reality I suspect the primary factor was a distinct lack of judgement on the 'yote's part!

Jamie, thanks for the offer, and I'll end up sending you a PM. No, I'm not going to mount her.....we're of different species! I'll try a self-help euro on the skull I think and probably skin out the tail for the garage. My original plan was to get the hide tanned and sewn into a coat for our Sheltie to help her feel and look tougher! Plan offically veto'd by Mrs. Tree.

209, I hear ya about getting board. I'm even twitchy in my sleep, and that's why I get to spend so many nights on the couch! Yeah.....that's why.......
