I was there this last September. Between two of use trolling the entire length of th lake we caught one small jack and nothing else. Other times a few years ago the action would be hit and miss. If you ice fish there look at where people have been punching holes in on the pwer line side of the island in front of the boat launch. If you hit the right spot it can be very good

Also welcome to the forum, there's lots of great info here and lots of great people too

Have fun

I was out about a week ago, caught a few smaller pike, really deep lake you have to choose your spots. I was right out from the boat launch in 8-10 feet of water.

The pike seemed interested but not hungry, saw probably about 10-15. Had similar experiences at Wabamun around that time. My rationale was that they just weren't in a feeding frenzy as I threw my whole tackle box at them.

Hoping things pick up in Feb. when their a little more hungry. There is also perch and walleye but I have never fished in in the summer so I'm guessing they would be concentrated in some specific parts of the lake.

Went out this morning , seen and caught 1 Jack about 53 cm , we were on the north west side of the island in about 10 ft of water , Ice was about 8 in thick and there is about a foot of snow, left there and went to Wabumun , caught some small perch and seen about 6 3-4 pound jack but they did not seem to be overly excited about what I was using .

Me and my brother and bestfriend fished it all summer at the least once a week usually weekend. My first and almost only lake I have fished loyally, even when it was $10 for parking and even more upsetting when they jumped it to $20! All the retarded parking fees and watersports aside it is awesome little lake. What I love is the clarity, structure, location and mostly WALLEYE. Caught and released every single one. Always did well. I've never tried in winter though.

I've fished Jackfish for the last 10 years both summer and winter. I used
to be able to catch a dozen or so small pike regardless of where we trolled.
Went there once last year and got skunked. Used to ice fish there alot
a few years back but the bites have slowed down there for me.

After all the times I've been on the lake..... never caught a walleye.

I've heard there are a few holes under the power line balls but I've
never stopped to jig it.

Its always been an easy lake to launch and keep out of the wind
regardless of the weather.

I've caught my best on Canada day all on my own at about 12:30am roughly. I was obviously the only one out there. It was 6lbs. If you just head to the right of the first main island(nw) I think, right by the power lines to just around the first point you should be sure to catch some toward the later of the evening. We caught quite a few. Just trolling or rowing with almost a full spool of line out with a medium black jig or yellow or black jig head with a gulp 3" leech that is what almost always worked for me.

take them to the trestle @ Wabumun. fish the north side of the tracks in moonlight bay. slip bobbers with smelt/chovie/herring all work well.

I fished there two winters ago straight off of the boat launch by the big island. I saw some large perch that would bite my perch lure so light that I could not hook them.

I fished there last summer on the east shore of the lake on the north side of the boat launch bay. There were tons of small walleye that I caught on a classic Rattlin Rapala Baby bass pattern. I caught the walleye from 8 to 20FOW. I knew some buddys there and they niceley lended me their paddle boat which I think helped because there was no engine noise to scare the walleye off.

I also caught 5 small pike and only caught a small pike around the big island.

A freind of my parents said they fished that lake 20 years ago and said that lake use to be loaded with large pike that would even scare scuba divers from swimming in there and it would be unheard of to catch a walleye out of there.

Here is a pike that was 40 inches, caught this summer from Jackfish. They are in there, and every few years we get a good one.

we used to fish there years ago before they made it near impossible to launch a boat unless you live there. Used to get some very nice sized pike. about 6 or 7 yrs ago,( the last time I was there ) my son brought in a 8lb walleye.

I drove past it a few days ago. From what I could see it didn't have any ice left on it.

They have made that lake C and R since the summer of 2005 and that lake seemed have an increasing number of trophy pike in it. I have caught many 8lbers out of there including a few over 10lbs. Many other board member have also caught many lunkers out of that lake over the past few years. When I fished that lake just before the oilspill, I had a 4ft+ pike on my line that wrapped the line around something (probably a large cluster of weeds) and the line broke. It seemed though that the big pike were fewer and far inbetween just a few years before the oil spill.

I was out on may long this year, pretty unproductive , just got 3, last year we would catch 20 to 60 between 3 of us but that was late in the year, got some really good wallys too but im wondering if because of the last winter was so bad , think there was a partial winterkill? i know its aerated bit the ice was 48 inches this year in wab, that lake would have frozen right up mabey eh?

I fished Wab a few times last year. I have a hard time believing it got to 48 inches. 36 maybe. I fished Utikuma and Calling in late March and neither were even 40 inches (and both are much further north).
